A recent trial in South Australia’s forestry sector has shown that while electric trucks can technically do the job, they’re 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 — 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀.

Interesting.

Because for many in the real world — particularly 𝗦𝗠𝗘 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 — this isn’t exactly a revelation.

The reality is that freight isn’t theoretical. It’s not policy-driven.

It’s 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 — Every. Single. Day.

Yet the conversation around electrification continues to be driven as though one solution fits all.

Maybe it’s time the Australian Government and Chris Bowen started listening a little more closely to the businesses actually doing the work on the ground.
